The Rasa Retreat

January 8-15, 2022

The Rasa Retreat that will explore all facets of yoga in the beautiful, remote, secluded beaches of Northern Nicaragua at the tropical Coco-Loco Eco Resort.

We all need to unplug and detox from modern life from time to time.

In Yoga, it’s called Pratyahara, the withdrawal of the senses to begin to cultivate your inner landscape, connection with your highest self, and drop into a deep sense of peace.

Rasa means essence in Sanskrit.

This retreat was created so you can learn about the essence of yoga while working with the healing energy of Nicaragua.

Each morning will begin with Sadhana.

This will be 1.5 hour exploration of Pranayama, Prana Kriya, Asana, Mudra, Mantra and Meditation. We will settle in, breathe, move, focus, play, balance, meditate and reset.

The emphasis will be on deeply nourishing and strengthening the body while resetting the nervous system and cultivating a deep sense of peace.

Coco Loco Beach Resort

You’re free to design your days however you’d like.

You will then have time swim, surf, take a surf lesson, beach on the walk, journal, or simply relax and surround yourself with the tropical essence of Nicaragua.

Each day will also include a workshop on Astrology, Pranayama, Ayurveda, Meditation and Yogic Philosophy. We will then have a rest/break and then begin our evening practice of gentle yoga, breathwork and meditation.

The Coco Loco kitchen will be providing 4 delicious, healthy, nourishing meals a day.

Moon Ocean Ceremony

This week leads up to the first full moon of 2022 in the water sign of nurturing Cancer.

We will nurture our essence using the energies leading up to the full moon.

Our closing ceremony will be a Full Moon in Cancer Cacao Ceremony, where we will work with the energies of Nicaragua to cleanse and balance our emotional bodies under the illumination of the Cancer Moon. We will clear anything out that we don’t want to bring with us into the upcoming year.

The Yoga

After The Rasa Retreat, you’ll have a deeper understanding of yoga and tools to help you sustain your practice.

Alexis Miller Yoga Teacher

Hi! I’m Alexis, and I’ll be your yoga teacher.

I’ve created this retreat so you can learn and integrate yogic teachings amongst the healing energy of Northern Nicaragua.

I’ve been studying and practicing yoga for 20+ years and have a rich understanding of the entire system of yoga. I teach a combination of Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, and Meditation which I weave throughout my classes.

Hatha Yoga balances the Sun (Ha) and the Moon (Tha) sides of the body. Each day we’ll cultivate a practice that brings us into a state of play, joy, peace and bliss.

Cobra Pose Yoga Retreat

During our morning practice, we’ll be working with Prana Kriya, or dynamic movement with breath.

Prana is your vital life force energy (think of it like your essence, your unique energetic oxygen that only you can create) and Kriya is any type of dynamic movement.

When you combine the two, you oxygenate your cells with Prana and move energy throughout the Nadis, clearing out space and activating all of your energetic centers with fresh, clean, vital life-force energy.

In the afternoon, we will practice a gentler form of yoga with soft, peaceful breathing, soothing sounds and reaching a deep meditative state. We will focus on nurturing, restoring and resetting the entire energetic system and creating the essence of peace within.

We will work with the energy of Nicaragua to purify anything that we don’t want to take with us into the coming year.

The location of the eco-resort makes it easy to tune into the essence and medicine of the land where we are far away from any type of electrical grid. The veils are thin in this remote area of Northern Nicaragua and it’s common to receive intuitive pings often and especially if you are mindfully calling them in.

I can’t wait to share this energetic space with you!

Nicaragua has brought me so much healing, joy, play and bliss and I am so honored to be sharing my love for this country with you.

The Surf

There are multiple breaks in Northern Nicaragua that are suitable for all levels of surf!

Beginner to advanced, longboard or shortboard… the waves in Northern Nicaragua have something for everyone.

Within walking distance from the hotel are two fun waves perfect for all levels!

One is a cute left point right in front of the resort, and also great whitewater for beginners and surf lessons. One cove over is Nahua Lapa, which has rights and lefts for all levels.

We can arrange lessons as well!

There are several more waves in the area depending on the swell and your level of surf. We have a world class hollow beach break nearby, a fun point break and a few more beach breaks to explore! We can arrange for transport via boat or truck with a guide.

The waves are super fun in January and the wind can be offshore all day.

Most of the waves are best at mid-high tide and the week of January 8-15 the tide will be high in the morning! The surf should be really fun and we can potentially have some sunset sessions as well.

I have found the ocean an integral part of my yoga and meditation practice, so however I can guide you into your best, most healing experience in the waters of Nicaragua I will be sure to dial you into whatever your heart feels called to.

About Coco-Loco Eco Resort

Coco-Loco believes in a simple, organic lifestyle and provides an experience that will leave you feeling connected to the natural surroundings and cycles of nature.

Beach Cabanas, The Accommodations

On the main property there are 8 palm-thatch Beach Cabanas that were designed with comfort and coolness in mind. These eco-friendly cabanas were built using local pine and eucalyptus woods and local palm thatch for the roofs.

Each cabana has its own private bathroom and open-air shower (imagine showering under the stars at night). The bathrooms feature a EcoVita composting toilet to help reduce our water footprint.

The Yoga Shala, Our Sanctuary

The Shala is constructed as an open-air style rancho with an incredible ocean view, and side walls to provide a teaching space for various poses, alignment principles and inversion workshops.

It also has super lush props, bolsters, blocks, straps and even eye pillows for the ultimate relaxation.

The Food

They take food very seriously at Coco Loco and are proud of the excellent reviews on their TripAdvisor page. They typically offer quite a mixed menu featuring dishes from all over the world and are happy to accommodate any dietary limitations.

  • A mid-morning second breakfast, which is will be a buffet featuring all of the early morning goodies plus some heavier breakfast items. Some examples are — chia pudding, tipico (a traditional Nicaraguan breakfast spread), omelets, quinoa bake, cinnamon quinoa + date bowl, and quiche.

  • Lunch is served early in the afternoon. A few common lunch plates served are — Grilled Veggie Hummus Salad, Coconut or Fish Ceviche with Pineapple-Rice, Zucchini Rolls with Cashew Nut Cheese, Roasted Veggie Pesto Sandwich on Homemade Focaccia, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, and Falafels.

Guacamole with Veggie Sticks - Grilled Fish or Stuffed Veggies w/ Quinoa - Brownies

Giving Back

Giving back has always been a core belief of El Coco Loco and it’s one of the reason I chose to host The Rasa Retreat at this eco-resort.

In 2009, they founded Waves of Hope (WOH), a Canadian-based NGO that has raised and invested over $250k into the community. The mission of WOH is to improve the quality of life of the local community through education, development, and volunteer efforts.

Some of the larger local projects include…

Renovation & Expansion of El Manzano #1 Elementary School Construction of El Manzano #2 Pre-School
Construction of Manzanillo High School
Construction of Francisco Laguna Elementary School
El Manzano #1 Community Clean Water Project

While it’s completely optional you can get involved in a project if you’d would like during your time at Coco Loco. They recommend setting aside a couple hours one afternoon to learn about the community and WOH non-profit work.

We can also include a short community tour for those that are interested.

Transportation

The price of the retreat includes group transportation Managua International Airport to El Coco Loco Resort and return transportation in three air-conditioned micro-buses that each fit 8-10 persons comfortably and one car for an additional 3-4 persons.

The trip from Managua to Coco-Loco is about 3.5 hours.

The cost of your travel to and from Managua Airport is not included in the price.
